MANILA, Philippines — The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) has issued a yellow alert for the Luzon grid from 6 to 10 p.m. due to limited power supply.

At 7 p.m., available capacity is 12,048 megawatts (MW), while peak demand is 11,426 MW, indicating potential strain on the grid.

Twenty-two power plants are on forced outage, while one is operating on derated capacity, reducing available power by 2,325.8 MW.

According to NGCP, a yellow alert is issued “when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.”

Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla previously said that the country needs more power plants in the future to avoid grids being placed on red and yellow alert.
