THE National Transmission Corp. (TransCo) has pledged P10.5 billion to help the Philippines combat and cope with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic. In a joint release with the Department of Energy, TransCo said it had donated P7.5 million to the Department of Health to purchase testing kits and other relevant items as part of its share in the implementation of Republic Act 11469, or the “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.” This was besides the P3 million already donated to the Philippine Red Cross to purchase personal protective equipment for frontline health workers. According to Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, the state-run firm has offered its 14-room dormitory to accommodate health workers of the Lung Center of the Philippines for free. It has also been providing food packs for health workers of the Lung Center, Philippine Heart Center and East Avenue Medical Center. It also offered its fleet of vehicles to ferry health workers to and from their assigned stations in Quezon City.
