Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi on Thursday allayed concerns the pursuit of clean and c will burden electricity consumers.

“The RPS (Renewable Portfolio Standards) for On-Grid rules outlined various safety nets to protect the electricity end-users and to ensure that this new venture will not result in higher electricity rates,” Cusi said in a statement.

Cusi reacted to studies that consumers may have to shoulder more than P100 billion annually by 2030 under the government’s plan for a 35 percent renewable energy share in the fuel mix as contained in the renewable energy portfolio standard rules.

“The DoE, after consultations with consumer groups and industry players, clarified this policy and placed the ‘no higher rates’ condition in the department circular itself,” Cusi said.

Cusi said distribution utilities and other mandated participants should undertake a competitive selection process to ensure the “no higher rates” policy.
