The Department of Energy (DOE) endorsed 11 renewable energy projects to grid operator National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) for a system impact study (SIS) in March 2024.

The projects received clearance to undergo SIS by the NGCP, which will determine the capacity of the power grid to accommodate additional capacities and identify necessary improvements needed such as transmission lines, transformers or substations.

“In March 2024, the DOE issued 11 SIS endorsements to the NGCP which is composed of three amendments and eight new applications,” the DOE said.

The biggest projects include Tera Renewables 9 Corp.’s 532-megawatt (MW) Villasis-Malasiqui 1 solar project in Malasiqui, Pangasinan; NewAsia Power Energy II Corp.’s 131.78-MW Sta. Rosa floating PV project in Laguna de Bay; NortesolII Inc.’s 131.789-MW Cabuyao 1 floating PV plant at the Laguna de Bay; and Nanchao Renewable Energy Corp.’s 100-MW Pasuquin-Burgos solar plant in Burgos, Ilocos Norte.
