The Energy Department and other energy stakeholders on Friday assured the public of concerted efforts to ensure the stable supply of power throughout the year, especially during dry months when demand is high.

Grid operator National Grid Corp. of the Philippines on Thursday called for the intervention of government agencies, especially those in the energy industry, to address the power shortage looming over the Luzon grid during the dry months.

“The DOE has been actively working with the entire energy family since November last year for all the necessary preparations, as well as the development of harmonized solutions to make sure that there will be adequate power supply all year round,” said Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi.

According to NGCP and Independent Electricity Market Operator, operator of the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, thin electricity supply is forecast between April and June, even with an expected incoming 700-megawatt capacity from new power plants.
