Alternergy Holdings Corp. said Monday its wholly-owned subsidiary Alternergy Tanay Wind Corp. (ATWC) and transmission operator National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) signed an interconnection agreement for the P9-billion, 100-megawatt Tanay wind power project in Tanay, Rizal.

This is the second ICA signed by Alternergy with NGCP in recent weeks.

Alternergy’s Alabat Wind Power Project also signed an ICA with NGCP for the dispatch of clean and renewable energy from its P7-billion, 64-MW Alabat wind power project in Alabat, Quezon.

“The ICA signing for the Tanay wind power project is a big step. We are delighted to receive NGCP’s approval to connect considering the current transmission challenges for any power project,” said ATWC president Knud Hedeager.

“NGCP’s approval is a positive response to fostering connectivity for renewable energy projects and increased critical energy infrastructures,” he said.

NGCP president and chief executive Anthony Almeda said that similar to the agreement for the Alabat wind power project, the company stands to provide assistance to the Tanay wind power project “which will contribute substantial renewable capacity to the grid to bolster the country’s energy sufficiency and sustainability.”

“As the transmission network provider and system operator, NGCP’s mandate is to expand the capacity and reliability of the grid to accommodate new generation projects,” Almeda said.

The Tanay wind power project is set to commence its development phase following the award by the Department of Energy of the certificate of confirmation of commerciality and the completion and signing of the commercial contracts.
