ACEN Corp., the energy arm of Ayala Corp., expects to start the operations of around 700 megawatts of solar and wind projects within the next 12 months.

“ACEN is currently building over 1,000 MW of solar and wind projects in the Philippines, of which around 700 MW is expected to start operations within the next 12 months,” ACEN president Eric Francia said when asked about the company’s plans next year.

He said the additional capacity would help alleviate the supply pressure next year and contribute to the attainment of the country’s renewable targets.

“2023 will remain challenging especially given the declining output from Malampaya and the continued electricity demand growth on the back of economic recovery,” Francia said.

Francia said that to support the scaling up of renewable projects, the country should incorporate more energy storage in the system. “It is, therefore, critical to get the reserve market operational soonest,” he said.
