Spectrum to set up solar project in OB Montessori

SPECTRUM, the solar subsidiary of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), said on Monday it has partnered with Operation Brotherhood (OB) Montessori Center for a solar power project in the institution’s campus in Quezon City.

In a statement, Spectrum said it will install a 99-kilowatt peak (kWp) solar photovoltaic (PV) system in OB Montessori Fairview. This will provide the educational institution with the capacity to generate approximately 132,000 kilowatt-hours of clean energy per year.

With this, OB Montessori is expected to save as much as P900,000 per year.

Panlilio said.

The project marks OB Montessori’s gradual shift to clean energy and signifies its commitment to sustainability, upping it a notch by going beyond its array of environmental stewardship activities such as tree planting, coastal clean-ups, and going paperless among others.

Through this solar rooftop project, OB Montessori also aims to broaden awareness among its students on ways to help reduce the country’s carbon footprint.

Once the solar project becomes operational, OB Montessori can expect to reduce its carbon footprint by around 94 tonnes, which is equivalent to planting more than 4,300 trees or reducing around 232,200 miles in vehicle travel per year.
