SOLAR Philippines said on Thursday it is open to partnerships to accelerate the development of various solar projects.
“While we once focused on competing with others in the power industry, we are now collaborating with several local and foreign partners, harnessing their strengths across all our projects to take solar in the Philippines to the next level,” said Solar Philippines founder Leandro Leviste in a statement.
Solar Philippines said it has been increasingly focused on forging partnerships in recent years.
In December 2018, the company partnered with Korea Electric Power Corp. (Kepco) for its 63-megawatt (MW) solar farm in Batangas. This marked Kepco’s first renewable energy project in Southeast Asia.
In June this year, Solar Philippines and Razon-led Prime Metroline Infrastructure Holdings Corp. (Prime Infra) inked an agreement to undertake up to 8,000 MW of solar projects, including the 200-MW solar farm in Concepcion, Tarlac.
Forging partnerships with local and foreign entities form part of Solar Philippines’ plan to embark on a new strategic direction.
“First, we are starting a new company to focus on investments in provincial real estate, while enabling Solar Philippines to focus on developing projects that are symbiotic with this real estate,” Leviste said.
“Second, we are bringing onboard professional management to lead Solar Philippines in this new chapter, as a step towards becoming a more widely-held public company,” he added.
Data from the Department of Energy showed Solar Philippines is developing projects with a total capacity of over 10 gigawatts in over a dozen provinces as of this year.
