The hybrid mini-grid project of Sabang Renewable Energy Corp. set to be completed this month will become the “showcase” for off-grid electrification projects that supports government’s thrust of total electrification, the Department of Energy said Wednesday.
The SREC project is the first of hybrid mini-grid project in off-grid or missionary areas and features a solar PV power plant of 1.4 megawatt peak, a durable battery pack of 2.3 megawatthours and 1.2 megawatts of diesel generators.
The hybrid power plant combines solar panels and diesel engine and an electricity distribution system in Barangay Cabayugan, Puerto Princesa City.
“It is the first hybrid (solar, diesel and battery) system in off-grid areas under the Qualified Third Party (QTP) to support the country’s total electrification program. The area to be served by the project will experience 24/7 electricity services,” Energy Undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella said.
