Philippine Electricity Market Corp., the governing body of the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, is conducting readiness assessment for the implementation of the enhanced WESM design and operations in Luzon and Visayas and in Mindanao starting April.
The PEMC audit committee has engaged Sapere Research Group Ltd. to help in the assessment. PEMC monitors the compliance of market participants with the WESM market rules.
The WESM is the country trading floor of electricity. It is a centralized venue for buyers and sellers that trade electricity as a commodity where prices are based on actual use (demand) and availability (supply).
The assessment aims will determine the readiness of the market operator, specifically the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines, system operator, metering services providers, market participants (generators and customers) and PEMC for the implementation of the enhanced WESM design and operations in Luzon and Visayas and Mindanao.
