The Philippine Competition Commission has started data gathering in preparation for an investigation into the possible violations of power companies as raised by the Department of Energy (DOE).

The DOE earlier asked the PCC, Department of Justice and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for enforcement assistance and case build-up on any violation of laws and other policies by the industry players in the wake of tight power supply experienced in the Luzon grid that led to red and yellow alerts.

“So far with respect to the brownout case that was brought up to the commission by the Office of the President… we are using the MOA (memorandum of agreement) with ERC as a vehicle to get that information or sharing of information,” PCC chairman Arsenio M.

Balisacan said during a webinar on Abuse of Dominance for the Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines on Saturday.

“We are also working closely with DOE, and we have in fact a task force organized to get this coordination working as smooth as possible and achieve our objective of securing that information, documents, evidence to get the case moving,” Balisacan said.
