Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi ordered National Power Corp. and the National Electrification Administration to step in and temporarily provide power supply of 25 megawatts to Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative to end recurring interruptions.
Cusi said he asked NEA and NPC to look for ways to provide the required power supply by Sept. 30. “Within the month of September this has to be addressed. This has to be implemented,” Cusi said.
“We are putting a temporary solution by requiring NPC to address that and NEA to work together to do that. That is on generation capacity,” the energy chief said.
Cusi said ORMECO should immediately work on the terms of reference and conduct a competitive selection process to procure the needed power capacity.
He said the people of the province could not wait for the usual bureaucratic process before their problems are resolved. Cusi traveled to Oriental Mindoro to personally resolve the rotating brownouts plaguing the province.
