The Department of Energy (DOE) said nine microgrid service providers (MGSP) pre-qualified to participate in the competitive selection process (CSP) for the electrification of an initial 98 unserved and underserved areas nationwide.
The DOE said in an advisory Wednesday the companies submitted complete eligibility requirements. These included DMCI Power Corp., Smart Power Solutions Corp., Alternative Power Resource Holdings Inc., MSpectrum Inc., Maharlika Consortium, Powersource OEG Services Inc., One Renewable Energy Enterprise Inc., FP Island Energy Corp. and Vivant Energy Corp.
It set the pre-bid conference for the pre-qualified bidders on Nov. 29, 2023 at 9 a.m.
“The DOE looks forward to working closely with the Pre-qualified Bidders in the next phase of the MGSP-CSP, as together, we embark on a journey toward a more resilient, sustainable, and interconnected energy future,” the agency said.
The 98 identified unelectrified areas have a total of 15,645 households, or equivalent to around 39 percent of the total households in the unserved and underserved areas that is viable for microgrid systems due to household density and demand.
Republic Act (RA) No. 11646, or the Microgrid Systems Act of 2022, mandates the conduct of a CSP before an MGSP can serve off-grid areas.
It provides for a 90- day timeline to complete the conduct of CSP from the pre-qualification until the submission to the Energy Regulatory Commission of the awarded contract.
