The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) has completely restored power transmission lines in the provinces struck by recent typhoons.
The “NGCP was able to restore transmission services to all areas affected ahead of schedule,” the grid operator said in a statement on Tuesday.
The NGCP deployed four helicopters and more than 1,000 personnel to restore transmission lines affected by Typhoons “Rolly” (international name: Goni) and “Ulysses” (international name: Vamco).
It said these workers worked in shifts to speed up restoration works when weather and safety conditions permit.
The company also donated more than P37 million worth of grocery packs, and T-shirts are being distributed to provinces in the Southern Tagalog and Bicol regions, and flooded areas in Cagayan Valley and the National Capital Region (NCR).
Thousands of sacks of rice and T-shirts, as well as tens of thousands of canned goods, bottled drinking water, noodles and other food items were distributed to about 100,000 families through their respective local government units.
“Many families and communities in the Southern Tagalog and Bicol regions were displaced by the passage of three strong tropical cyclones over the past few weeks. Many others were inundated by massive floods brought about by ‘Ulysses’ in the Cagayan region and in the NCR,” the NGCP said.
The grid operator is a Filipino-led, privately owned company in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the country’s power grid. It is led by majority shareholders and NGCP Board Vice Chairman Henry Sy Jr. and Co-Vice Chairman Robert Coyiuto Jr.
