National Grid Corp. of the Philippines said Wednesday power demand will continue to peak this year but assures brownouts are not likely to occur.
“Assuming that there are no unforeseen circumstances like unplanned outages of large magnitude, we see no issue across all three grids,” NGCP spokesman Cynthia Perez-Alabanza said.
“The projections of NGCP are based on what is scheduled for the maintenance program. This does not consider unplanned outages which because of its nature you cannot forecast. So it’s difficult to factor that in,” Alabanza said.
NGCP forecasts peak demand to reach 10,561 megawatts in Luzon, 2,143 MW in Visayas and 2,064 MW in Mindanao this year, citing data from the Power Development Plan of the Energy Department.
The demand compares with a forecasted installed capacity 11,973 MW for Luzon, 2,543 MW for Visayas and 3,197 MW for Mindanao.
