Transmission operator National Grid Corp. of the Philippines is seeking approval from the Energy Regulatory Commission to implement capital expenditure projects worth P262 billion from 2020 to 2025 or farther.
NGCP filed three separation applications with the ERC on Jan. 18 for the approval of the capex program in Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.
“Along with its responsibility for the planning, construction and centralized operation and maintenance of its high voltage transmission facilities, it is indispensable for NGCP to ensure a reliable and high-performance operation of the transmission system,” the company said.
It said to avoid disruption in its operations and ensure compliance with its mandate under the Electric Power Industry Reform Act as transmission operator, the implementation of the proposed capex projects should be immediately approved.
NGCP received the franchise to operate, manage and engage in the business of conveying or transmitting electricity through a high-voltage backbone system of interconnected transmission lines, substations and related facilities, system operations and other activities that are necessary to support the safe and reliable operation of the transmission system,
NGCP is seeking approval for the several big-ticket projects under the Group 3 capex application with the ERC covering the period 2020 to 2025 with total project cost of about P113 billion.
These include the Northern Luzon 230 kV Loop project and the Nagsaag-Santiago 500 kV transmission line project, Bolo-Balaon 500kV transmission line project, Balaon-Laoag 500 kV transmission line project, Western Luzon 500 kV Backbone project, among others.
For the period 2020 to 2025 under Group 1, NGCP is seeking approval for projects with total capex of about P93 billion which include the Daraga-Bitano 69kV Transmission Line Project, Abuyog 230kV Substation Project, Castillejos 230kV Substation Project, Dasol 230kV Substation Project, Sampaloc 230Kv Substation Project, Baler 230kV Substation Project and Kawit 230kV Substation Project.
Projects lined up for the Visayas include the Visayas Substation Upgrading Project 2 and Negros-Panay230 kV Interconnection Line 2 Project.
Mindanao projects under Group 1 include the Villanueva-Kinamlutan230kV TL Project, Mindanao Substation Upgrading 2 Project and Mindanao Substation Expansion4 Project.
For the period 2021 to 2025, NGCP sought approval for the capex of several projects such Fiber Optic and Microwave Radio Equipment Replacement, Fiber Optic Expansion, SCADA/EMS Facilities Replacement, Cyber Security, Substation Reliability Program, Transmission Line Reliability Program, Sub-Transmission Line Reliability Program, among others.
NGCP said it is mandated to ensure and maintain the quality, reliability, adequacy, security, stability and integrity of the nationwide grid.
“Hence, NGCP seeks authority from this Honorable Commission for the immediate implementation of the following capital expenditure projects,” NGCP said.
