National Grid Corp. of the Philippines asked the Energy Regulatory Commission to approve the first stage of the Palawan-Mindoro Interconnection project that will secure the future power supply of Palawan.
NGCP said in an application with the ERC that Palawan had long been suffering from power outages.
It said the best and long-term solution was the interconnection of the island to the Luzon grid through the Mindoro grid.
“Thus, NGCP proposes the immediate approval of the proposed Palawan-Mindoro Interconnection Project Stage 1. This project will serve for the preparatory stage for the interconnection of the Palawan islands to the Luzon grid,” it said.
The project, which has an estimated project cost of P6.4 billion, involves the feasibility studies of the area to assess risks, describe the landing sites for the submarine cable interconnection and data that could affect the system.
“With the interconnection, Palawan can already source adequate and reliable power supply and access to more competitive generation sources in the Luzon grid,” NGCP said.
