System operator and transmission service provider National Grid Corp. of the Philippines implemented necessary preparations and precautions to minimize the impact of Tropical Storm Ursula on transmission operations and facilities.
“Preparations included ensuring the reliability of communications equipment, availability of hardware materials and supplies necessary for the repair of damages to facilities, as well as the positioning of line crews in strategic areas, to facilitate immediate restoration work,” the company said.
NGCP said its integrated disaster action plan prescribes these and other procedures to ensure the readiness of all power transmission facilities which are expected to be affected by the passage of the weather disturbance.
It said that aside from ensuring the continuity of operations amid typhoons and other calamities, it was pursuing projects to provide significant improvement in the grid, including the Mindanao Grid.
“Part of NGCP’s mandate constitutes the upgrading of various transmission facilities to secure the integrity of the transmission network,” the company said.
