Iloilo City—More Electric and Power Corp. (More Power) has unveiled its new control center as part of its P115-million Simple Historical Code and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Project.
“This is just one component of this project which we call SCADA,” said More Power Vice President for Network Development and Operations Group Engineer Bernard Bailey Del Castillo, adding that the other components of the SCADA system include fiber optic network and the point-to-point communication.
The SCADA system is a harmony of software, hardware, and intelligent programming that allows the monitoring, control, data recording, and forecasting of the company’s power distribution system.
The control center is just part of the SCADA system, which promises to reduce turn-around-time, reduce instances of unplanned outages, automatically restores feeders during outages, improve power quality, and make handling of customer complaints more efficient.
“For every round of interruption, we actually know how many customers are affected,” said Del Castillo.
The entire SCADA system will is targeted for completion this year.
More Power’s control center has the first-ever centralized SCADA system in Iloilo and Panay that is capable to operate and monitor, on real-time, operations not only in Iloilo and Panay but in other areas that the company will be operating in the future.
The company has invested roughly P1 billion to rehabilitate four substations, energize two new substations and a control center. Its goal is to support economic growth and align with government renewable energy (RE) initiatives.
As of June this year, MORE Power customers reached 96,134.
The company started its modernization program in Iloilo City in April 2020 to cut systems losses “to provide Iloilo a more reliable, safer and cheaper electricity supply.”
System loss refers to the amount of electricity lost in the inefficient distribution because of faulty lines and equipment or from pilferage.
