Power retailer Manila Electric Co. said it is intensifying the electrification program to attain 100-percent or total electrification of its franchise area by 2020.
“The focus for now is to provide distribution and connection service to underserved and unserved customers in Metro Manila and Batangas. To date, additional 38 sites were already energized,” Meralco said in a statement.
Meralco is the country’s biggest power distributor with nearly seven million customers in its franchise area.
“Serving all of its customers in its franchise, we have this zero unserved initiative right now… Our president does not want to have any customer in Meralco who does not have power connection that’s why we have this number of sites being identified to be energized within the year,” Meralco head of networks Ronnie Aperocho said.
The company identified 118 remaining sites for electrification covering 15,969 households costing P267 million. Of the said sites, 28 are under construction while around 70 are undergoing right of way resolution.
“That’s why we have this number of sites being identified to be energized within the year. This covers 118 sites, serving close to 16,000 households,” Aperocho said.
