MANILA, Philippines — The Meralco Power Academy (MPA) has been certified as the country’s first recognized energy training institution.
Meralco said the MPA, a premier energy education provider, has been certified by the Department of Energy (DOE) as the first Recognized Training Institution (RTI) under the recently issued regulations that form part of the implementation of Republic Act 11285 or the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Law of 2018.
As an RTI, the power distributor said MPA is eligible to conduct training and certify energy managers (EM) and energy auditors (EA) in the Philippines.
“It is an RTI’s responsibility to ensure compliance with the training regulations, which include designing modules based on the common and core competencies required of EMs and EAs as set by the DOE,” Meralco said.
“An RTI must also ensure that all graduates from their program are equipped with the knowledge and skills to plan, manage, implement, and evaluate energy consumption and conservation programs,” it said.
Prior to the DOE’s certification, MPA conducts its training programs consistent with the standards set by ISO50001, ISO50002, American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, and Association of Energy Engineers, among others.
The MPA has been at the forefront of energy education since 2015, training over 300 energy management and audit professionals from over 80 companies across various industries.
MPA actively promotes and advocates energy efficiency and renewable energy programs.
