THE Department of Energy (DoE) has allowed several companies to conduct a system impact study (SIS) on their respective planned power projects. This type of study determines the adequacy and capability of the power grid to accommodate new connections. Based on the Energy department’s list, the largest power plant there is the 600-megawatt (MW) Guimaras Strait Wind Power Project of Triconti Windkraft Group of Companies, a joint venture of Triconti ECC Renewables Corp. and Switzerland-based Stream Invest Holding AG. FDC Misamis Power Corp.’s 2×135-MW circulating fluidized bed coal-fired power plant expansion project also secured the department’s clearance. The same approval was also given to the 270-MW Laguna Lake Calamba Solar Power Project of Barracuda Energy Corp. and the 200-MW Lumban Ancillary Service Diesel Power Plant of Sunwest Water and Electric Co. Also, the integrated steel manufacturing plant project of Panhua Group Co. Ltd. and the Laguna Lake-Balibago solar power project of Barracuda Energy, with a capacity of 150 MW and 140 MW, respectively, obtained an SIS clearance. Other power facilities on the list include Suweco’s ancillary reserve diesel power plants; Nuevo Solar Energy Corp.’s Currimao solar power project; Barracuda Energy’s solar projects in Laguna de Bay; Cleantech Global Renewables Inc.’s Bulacan two solar power project; and Sarangani Energy Corp.’s coal power plant.
