Senator Sherwin Gatchalian asked local government units to start talks with investors to put up waste-to-energy facilities.
The Department of Energy recently came out with a draft circular on WTE, consistent with Gatchalian’s proposed Waste-To-Energy Act (Senate Bill No. 1789) that seeks to establish a regulatory framework for facilities utilizing WTE technologies for proper waste management.
“The development of WTE technology should send a signal to local government units to begin entertaining investors and explore the feasibility of having WTE facilities in their localities,” said Gatchalian, chairman of the Senate committee on energy.
Gatchalian said with clear backing from the government, the adoption of WTE technology would address garbage disposal and provide a renewable energy source.
