Isla Norte Energy Corp., an incorporated joint venture of Vivant Integrated Diesel Corp. and Gigawatt Power Inc., plans to develop more projects next year after completing a 23.3-megawatt power plant in Bantayan Island, Cebu that is seen to end the power shortage in the area.
INEC plans to start construction of the power projects costing a combined P1.9 billion in Pampanga and in Culion and Linapacan islands.
“After this, we’re really looking at building the two power plants we’ve been awarded PSAs (power supply agreements),” INEC board director Walden Tantuico said.
The Bantayan power plant is a diesel engine power plant in Barangay Kabangbang that will supply the long-term total power requirements of Bantayan Island. INEC was awarded a 15-year supply contract or power supply agreement to fulfill the demand of Bantayan Electric Cooperative Inc., following a successful competitive selection process.
INEC completed the testing and commissioning of the plant in October and was able to augment the island’s power supply during shortages.
