Hocheng Philippines Corporation (HCG), a total bathroom solutions provider, has renewed its power supply agreement with First Gen Corporation of the Lopez group.

The new lease on their contract entails that HCG will continue to draw its 850-kilowatt power requirements from the geothermal assets of Energy Development Corporation (EDC), a subsidiary of First Gen.

Carlo Vega, vice president and head of First Gen’s Power Marketing, Trading, and Economics, noted that in HGC’s case, “choosing the right energy partner allows them to move toward a future that goes beyond sustainability for them and its customers’ precious bathroom.”

According to Eugene Lin, senior vice president and officer-in-charge of HGC, the continued use of green energy through the chain of their operations will be in keeping with the company’s pathway toward lowering its carbon intensity.

He, nevertheless, emphasized that “aside from the use of renewable energy, we have several initiatives that contribute to the company’s green and decarbonization objectives.”

Lin stated that one innovation they have been pursuing is on the “offer (of) water-saving products to green buildings,” – and that’s fundamentally anchored on introducing to customers a bathroom product that will have reduced water consumption from 6 liters to 4 liters per flush.

He explained that introducing this kind of product for commercial-scale deployment “doesn’t only help the environment on water wastages but also results in additional savings for our customers.”

Geothermal, as the company’s energy source, is of base load nature, hence, that technology will yield generated capacity round-the-clock and service disruptions will not be a distressing concern to the end-user.

HCG further specified that “the company’s mission is to provide quality LEED-compliant bathroom fixtures with sophisticated designs and excellent functionality to every Filipino home.”

Lin thus expressed confidence that “First Gen can help meet our goals by providing efficient electricity through their low-carbon footprint resources.”

On top of the First Gen-contracted power capacity, the HCG executive similarly indicated that “we are exploring solar rooftop projects to complement our geothermal source of power.”
