The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) ordered the temporary suspension of the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) for the Luzon grid effective 1:05 p.m. Monday amid insufficient generation capacity after typhoon Aghon affected several power plants.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), the country’s system operator (SO), earlier placed the Luzon grid under red alert as the available generation capacity was not enough to meet demand and the regulating requirement of the transmission grid.
This is pursuant to ERC Order on Case No. 2024-017 MC dated April 30, 2024 to mitigate the adverse impact of the red alerts to consumers.
