The Energy Regulatory Commission granted a provisional authority to grid operator National Grid Corp. of the Philippines and Phinma Energy Corp. to implement an ancillary services procurement agreement.
“The commission’s initial evaluation of the instant application disclosed that the contracted ancillary service capacity is needed to augment the deficiency of dispatchable reserve capacity to be able to maintain the reliability in the operation of the transmission system and the reliability of the electricity supply in the Visayas grid,” the ERC said in an order.
Ancillary services are those that are necessary to support the transmission capacity and energy from resources to loads while maintaining reliable operation of the transmission system operated by NGCP.
Phinma is the owner and operator of the 64-megawatt diesel power plants (Power Barges 101 and 102) in Barrio Obrero, Iloilo City, which were certified and accredited by NGCP as capable of providing dispatchable reserve.
