MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Ombudsman ordered on Thursday the six-month preventive suspension of Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Chairman and CEO Monalisa Dimalanta.
The order stems from a case filed by the National Association of Electricity Consumers for Reforms Inc. (NASECORE) in November 2023 seeking accountability from Dimalanta who allowed the Manila Electric Company’s regular purchase of electricity from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) and subsequently billing its consumers without ERC approval.
The ERC said it has yet to receive a copy of the order.
