Energy Development Corp., a subsidiary of First Gen Corp., signed a deal to supply clean and reliable energy to Mary Mediatrix Medical Center in Lipa City, Batangas.
The hospital signed up for a two-year contract for 1 megawatt of geothermal power from EDC’s BacMan Geothermal Inc. which owns the 150-MW Bacon-Manito geothermal project in the Bicol region.
“This contract symbolizes our commitment not only to our partnership but also to our environment. It is a good opportunity that First Gen-EDC offered us this alternative energy solution. Not only will we be able to generate substantial savings through this initiative, but we will still be able to deliver high-quality healthcare services to our patients without compromise,” said MMMC president and chief executive Robert Magsino during the contract signing.
“Geothermal power provides clean, renewable and reliable energy source that allows us to reduce our operation’s negative impact to the environment by reducing our carbon footprint. With this in mind, we look forward to a mutually-beneficial and strong partnership with First Gen-EDC,” Magsino said.
MMMC has been providing healthcare to the people of Southern Luzon since 1994. It received its ISO 9001:2008 certification in 2013, a proof of the hospital’s international quality standards.
EDC said it received continuing strong interest for the supply of clean energy to local companies.
Hamlin Industrial Corp., a subsidiary of the NST Group, earlier tapped EDC to supply power for its garment manufacturing and exporting business at Golden Mile Business Park in Barangay Maduya, Carmona, Cavite.
EDC also supplies clean energy to Mondelez Philippines, the local unit of global snack giant Mondelēz International Inc. for its manufacturing plant in Sucat, Parañaque City.
EDC is one of the world’s largest geothermal producers and the leading renewable energy company with a total installed capacity of 1,471.8 MW.
