The Department of Energy (DOE) endorsed to the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) 21 power projects for system impact study (SIS) in December to augment supply.
It said the latest batch brought the total projects to 175 with a combined capacity of nearly 40,000 megawatts (MW) as of end-2023.
“In December 2023, the DOE issued 21 SIS endorsements to the NGCP, which is composed of two amendments and 19 new applications,” the agency said.
The SIS, to be conducted by NGCP as grid operator or an accredited third-party, will determine the capacity of the power grid to accommodate the additional capacities and identify necessary improvements needed such as additional transmission lines, transformers or substations.
Among the big projects endorsed to NGCP for SIS in December are the 420-MW East Ecija wind project of Gigasol4 Inc. in General Tinio, Nueva Ecija; the 416-MW Daga solar project of Visayas Cleanergy Inc. in Cadiz, Negros Occidental; the 200-MW Bulacan wind project in Norzagaray, Bulacan; and the 150-MW wind farm in Sorsogon City of Apolaki Three, Inc.
Other endorsed projects are the 145-MW Cawag solar project of Northern Palawan Power Generation Corp. in Subic, Zambales; the 196-MW project of CSFirst Green Agri Industrial Development Inc. in Dasol, Pangasinan; and the 239.56-MW solar project of South Cleanergy Inc. in Cadiz, Negros Occidental.
The DOE also endorsed the 142.6-MW Baao wind project in Camarines Sur and 80.6-MW Ibajay wind project in Pandan, Antique of The Blue Circle Philippines Cebu Corp.; the 387.5-MW wind project of Giga Ace 6 Inc. in Mauban, Quezon; the 33.83-MW Limbauan solar project of BKS Green Energy Corp. in San Pablo, Isabela; and the 20-MW Lower Buhid hydro project of Buhid Hydroenergy Corp. in Maydolong, Eastern Samar.
The DOE also endorse the 50-MW solar plant of Wyn Power Corp. in Rosario, Batangas; the 75-MW Umingan solar project of Jord Energy Corp. in Pangasinan; the 38.4-MW solar project of Telos Energy Development Corp. in Iba, Zambales; and the SPC Island Power Corp.’s 30-MW battery energy storage system project in Bohol and its 49.9-MW BESS project in Dingle, Iloilo.
The agency also approved the conduct of SIS for the 85-MW Bulalacao wind project of Amihan Power Inc. in Occidental Mindoro; the 8.62-MW hydro project of Bacolod Hydro Power Corp in Lanao del Norte; the 6.14-MW hydro project of Pagayawan Power Corp. in Lanao del Norte; and the 169-MW project of Therma Visayas Inc. in Toledo, Cebu.
