The Department of Energy (DOE) endorsed 12 projects for system impact study by the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) in July, bringing the total endorsed in 2024 to 100.

The SIS will determine the capacity of the power grid to accommodate additional capacities and identify necessary improvements needed such as transmission lines, transformers or substations.

“In July 2024, the DOE issued 12 SIS endorsements to the NGCP, which are composed of one amendment and 11 new applications,” the DOE said.

The DOE endorsed nine solar projects to the transmission operator for the conduct of SIS last month which included the 118.41-megawatt Cadiz Solar project of Puente Al Sol Inc. in Negros Occidental and the 16-MW power project of Verde Radiant Power Corp. in Nueva Vizcaya.

It also endorsed the 50-MW La Union solar power project of PHINMA Solar Energy Corp. in La Union, the 51.51-MW Caronsi solar power project of Caronsi Solar Energy Corp. in Cagayan province and the 61.68-MW San Carlos 2 solar project of TPC I Corp. in Negros Occidental.

The agency also granted approval to the 51.89-MW Aringay solar project of Agsapa Green Energy Corp. in La Union, the 55-MW Banaybanay Davao Oriental solar farm of DY Green Energy Corp. in Davao Oriental, the 231-MW Sapang Balen solar 1 project of Sapang Balen Solar Sustainable Energy Corp., and the 180.5-MW Sinawal solar power plant of Emergy Energy Resources 2 Inc. to proceed with their SIS.

The DOE also endorsed other technologies for SIS such as the 119-MW Amacan geothermal power project of Energy Development Corp. in Davao de Oro, the 100-MW Vento Power wind project of Ventopower Inc. and the 34.8-MW Bago 3 hydro project of Alsons Energy Development Corp. in Negros Occidental.
