D.O.E. okays G.I.S. for 7 power projects

THE Department of Energy (DOE) has cleared seven power projects for the conduct of a grid impact study (GIS).

These proposed projects could generate a total of 562 megawatts (MW) of installed power capacity.

A clearance for the conduct of a GIS is necessary for a power firm before it can proceed with the construction of its power project.

Based on the agency’s latest list as of March 2017 the following power projects received the green light: The Currimao Solar Energy Corp.’s Talisay wind power project (150 MW) in Camarines Norte, Talim wind power project (140 MW) and Calatagan wind power project (80 MW) in Batangas. The DOE issued its approval for all wind projects on March 3.

The 22 MW Capas solar power plant in Tarlac will be undertaken by Simdicatum C-Solar Power Inc. which received DOE approval on March 8.

The 30 MW battery energy storage of Silay Global Energy Solutions in Negros Occidental, meanwhile, received its approval on March 23.

Pilipinas Newton Energy Corp.’s 70 MW San Manuel 1 solar project and the 70 MW San Manuel 2 solar project of Pilipinas Einstein Energy Corp., which are both located in Pangasinan, were approved to proceed with the conduct of the GIS on March 23.

In all, the DOE approved 22 applications of power projects for the conduct of GIS in the first quarter of the year.

All proposed projects from January to March this year could generate a total of 2,230.53 MW of installed power capacity.
