Citicore Renewable Energy Corp. (CREC) asked the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to allow it put up a point-to-point facility to connect its 90-megawatt Lumbangan solar project in Tuy, Batangas to the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) substation.

The point-to-point facility will connect the solar plant to NGCP’s 69-kV Tuy substation via collector switch and transmission line.

CREC said in its application to the ERC it would fund the P462-million dedicated line and would not affect any regulated charges.

“CREC respectfully seeks the confirmation and approval that the connection of NGCP’s 69kV Tuy substation through the dedicated facility project as proposed under the system impact study is the most viable option for connecting the project to the Luzon grid,” it said.

The company is looking at MN Electro Industrial Supply & Services Inc. as possible contractor for supplying the equipment, material, labor and services to complete the facility.

“Given the RE Law’s objective to accelerate the development of the country’s renewable energy resources and increase the utilization of renewable energy, it is in the interest of the government to help RE developers such as CREC achieve commerciality and commence operations at the soonest practicable time,” CREC said

It said the construction of the dedicated facility is a pre-requisite for the testing and commissioning, and ultimately, the commercial operations of the solar project.

CREC aims to complete the dedicated facility by Jan. 30, 2024 and the solar project by March 15, 2024. It plans to start commissioning and testing by April 8, 2024 and achieve commercial operation by June 8, 2024.

“Given its aggressive timeline, the completion of the project and the dedicated facility project within its projected timeframe is critical to ensure that additional capacity to the Luzon Grid becomes available in a timely manner,” it said.
