Listed Basic Energy Corp. is developing an onshore wind project in Panay with an estimated renewable capacity of at least 155 megawatts.

Basic disclosed to the stock exchange on Thursday that it received from the Department of Energy its newly-approved wind energy service contract for the project.

“The official copy of the signed WESC between the DOE and BSC was received by the corporation yesterday officially marking the start of BSC’s plans to expand its current portfolio of RE projects,” the company said.

The proposed onshore wind power plant will be located in San Joaquin and Miag-ao, Iloilo and Hamtic, Antique with a total land area of interest of 13,932 hectares covering 172 RE blocks.

The wind facility is expected to generate a 155 MW based on the preliminary study done by an independent party.

“With the approval and signing of the WESC, Basic Energy Corporation will commence to deploy its resources for the wind resource assessment campaign to determine the precise wind regime in the said area,” the company said.

Basic is expected to complete the pre-development stage in a 5-year period as committed under the said service contract.

“Basic is always open to entertain interested parties who would like to participate in our projects,” Basic board member Oscar De Venecia said.

The company is also developing a 50 MW Mabini wind project in Batangas which covers 4,860 hectares in the Mabini Peninsula.

Basic has signed non-disclosure agreements/confidentiality with several entities after being provided with the data gathered through the wind resource assessment through the course of their due diligence on the project.

The wind resource assessment for the Mabini wind project is still ongoing.
