The Department of Energy (DOE) awarded Basic Energy Corp. a certificate of authority (COA) for its 62-megawatt Mariveles Solar Power Project in Bataan.

Basic said in a disclosure the COA, issued under the DOE’s revised Omnibus Guidelines Governing the Award and Administration of Renewable Energy Contracts, empowers the company to begin securing the necessary permits and tenure instruments required for the project.

This certificate also allows the company to initiate procurement activities ahead of the 25-year solar energy operating contract term.

The Mariveles solar project spans 72 hectares and is expected to generate a peak output of at least 62 MW based on a preliminary assessment by an independent third-party firm.

“With the COA secured, Basic Energy Corporation will now move forward with the next steps in the development process. This includes obtaining approvals from relevant national agencies and local government units, as well as conducting a System Impact Study in collaboration with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines,” the company said.

“We are excited to advance the development of the Mariveles Solar Power Project and remain committed to providing updates as the project progresses,” it said.

Basic is also developing the 50-MW Mabini Wind Energy Project in Batangas with Japanese firm RENOVA Inc.

The service contract has a land coverage area of 4,860 hectares, with a potential capacity of 50 MW.
