Alsons’ unit seeks ERC nod to connect diesel plant

Conal Holdings Corp. (CHC) is seeking the approval of the Energy Regulatory Commission to develop a point-to-point transmission facility to connect the Bohol In-Island Diesel Power plant to the Ubay substation of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines.
CHC is a subsidiary of Alcantara-controlled Alsons Consolidated Resources Corp. and owns all the diesel plants of the group.
The company is seeking the ERC approval for the dedicated facility project to connect its 95.2 MW back-up diesel plant in Ubay, Bohol to the Visayas grid trough the Ubay substation.
It said the diesel plant would contribute to the stabilization of Bohol’s power supply, acting as the island’s backup power supply and ensuring a 24/7 electricity if the province becomes isolated from the Visayas grid due to calamities.
CHC said it intends to connect the dedicated facility to the Ubay substation through a 1-km single circuit, direct connection comprised of overhead transmission line and underground cables.
It said CHC and NGCP would enter into a connection agreement subject to the approval of the commission. Once the project is completed, NGCP will operate and maintain the facility.
The estimated construction cost of the facility is $2.2 million for the foreign component and P112 million for the local component.
“Considering that the CHC will fully fund the construction and development of the dedicated facility, transmission rates imposed on the public will not be affected,” it said.
It said Ferrowelds Construction would build the facility.
