Lyceum of the Philippines University-Davao (LPU-Davao), an affiliate of Lyceum of the Philippines University, will soon be powered by solar under the Cleanenergy brand of Aboitiz Power Corp.
LPU-Davao signed an agreement with Aboitiz Power Distributed Renewables Inc. to explore a 300-kilowatt-peak rooftop solar project.
“Going renewable is a landmark in the rich history of LPU. This highlights our commitment not only to achieving academic excellence but also to ensuring that LPU, as among the leading educational institutions in the Philippines, remains sustainable so it can serve the next generation of learners,” said Peter Laurel, president of LPU Davao, Batangas, and Laguna campuses.
APX will install, operate and maintain the solar rooftop solar panels.
“We are very excited about this opportunity to work with LPU and to be part of its journey towards becoming a more sustainable institution. This marks our first foray into the education space for APX and we hope that it is just the beginning,” said APX director Carlos Aboitiz.
APX is AboitizPower’s business unit focusing on rooftop solar projects. It is part of AboitizPower’s Cleanergy portfolio, which also includes hydro, geothermal and solar power plants that are strategically across the country.
“We see great potential for distributed renewable energy in the Philippines. We look forward to helping more businesses reduce their energy cost and carbon footprint,” Aboitiz said.
Aboitiz Power is the holding company for the Aboitiz Group’s investments in power generation, distribution and retail services. The company plans to generate 65 percent of its generating capacity from renewable energy by 2030.
The company is one of the largest power producers in the Philippines with a balanced portfolio of assets located across the country. Its generation portfolio includes several hydro, geothermal and solar power generation facilities. It also has thermal power plants in its generation portfolio to support the base load and peak energy demands of the country.
The company owns distribution utilities that operate in high-growth areas in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, including the second and third largest private utilities in the country.
