DMCI Power Corp. (DPC) reported a 19-percent increase in sales in the first half of the year, driven by an increase in energy demand from its electric cooperatives in Palawan, Masbate and Oriental Mindoro.
The Consunji-led power firm said Thursday there was an upsurge in power demand, and improvement of distribution and transmission line systems in key operating areas. During the period, sales volume reached 169.50 gigawatt hours compared to 142.91 GWh posted in the same period a year ago.
The Palawan segment accounted for 43 percent of the total sales volume, followed by Masbate and Oriental Mindoro at 35 percent and 22 percent, respectively.
“The significant sales growth in Palawan is attributable to the increase in DPC’s level of dispatch following the expiration of Delta-P’s old power supply contract in April,” said DPC President Nestor Dadivas.
“Our Palawan power plants became the second priority in terms of energy dispatch so we were able to maximize our contractual capacity in the area,” he added.
Meanwhile, the continuous rehabilitation of the 69-kV transmission lines in Oriental Mindoro and ongoing improvement of distribution lines in Masbate accounted for the double-digit sales growth in both provinces.
On a stand-alone basis, DPC grew its first semester bottom line by 10 percent year-on-year, from P213 million to P234 million.
DPC, one of the country’s biggest off-grid energy players in terms of total installed capacity, is constructing a P20.92-million point-to-point limited facility that will connect its 2 x 4.95-megawatt bunker-fired power plant in Palawan to the Palawan main grid of the National Power Corp.
