MGI secures COC extension for Batangas Maibarara station

MAIBARARA Geothermal Inc. (MGI) has secured an extension of a Certificate of Compliance (COC) for its 20-megawatt (MW) Maibarara-1 power station in Santo Tomas, Batangas.

It said Wednesday that its application for the COC renewal was approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission last December 4. The ERC notified MGI on January 8.

The ERC also incorporated MGI’s 12-MW Unit 2, which has a separate COC issued on April 16, 2018, into the renewed COC of Unit 1. This is in compliance with ERC Resolution No.16, Series of 2014 that requires the consolidation of all individual COCs of one generation company under a single COC.  Both Maibarara generating plants are now cleared for commercial operations from October 2018 to October 2023, when the next five-year renewal is set.

“ERC’s renewal of our COC testifies to the continuing technical, operational and financial compliance of our two geothermal facilities to regulatory standards.  The release of the COC at the beginning of the year is auspicious as MGI achieved a record annual gross generation of more than 240 GWh in 2018,” MGI President F.G. Delfin Jr. said.

MGI is a joint venture among PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC, 65 percent), Phinma Energy Corp. (25 percent) and PNOC Renewables Corp. (10 percent). PGEC is the renewable-energy subsidiary of publicly listed PetroEnergy Resources.
