P1.5-B Batangas solar farm underway

Renewable energy firm Wyn Power Corp. has begun developing a 50-megawatt peak (MWp) solar plant in Taysan, Batangas, expected to boost the national grid’s clean energy capacity by next year.
At a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, Wyn Power president and CEO Engr. Rodel B. Arada said the company is investing P1.5 billion in the 48-hectare solar farm, which can generate up to 74 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually.
“This 50 MWp addition to the Luzon grid will significantly benefit industries and consumers served by BATELEC2 and nearby electric cooperatives,” Arada said.

The project is part of the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Auction Program 2 (GEAP-2), securing a green energy tariff of P4.10 per kilowatt-hour in the December 2023 bidding round. It will connect to the grid through a 2.3-kilometer tap into Batangas Electric Cooperative II’s 69-kilovolt transmission line.
“Today’s event is a testament to the collaboration between government and the private sector under the successful GEA-2. We welcome the investment of Wyn Power and we eagerly await your project’s completion,” he said.
Beyond utility-scale solar, Wyn Power develops rooftop solar and mini-hydro projects. Its clients include LandCo Pacific, Global-Estate Resorts Inc., EEI Corp., Absolut Distillers Inc., Steel Asia, Aboitiz Land, Rockwell Land, SM Development Corp., and Nestlé.
