Alternergy Holdings Corp. said Wednesday an additional renewable energy capacity of 112 megawatts will be added to the Luzon electricity grid by end-2025 with the groundbreaking of the Tanay wind power project in Tanay, Rizal.

Alternergy chairman Vicente Perez expressed his appreciation to the partnership extended by the Rizal provincial government, the Tanay municipal government, the host barangays and the different national government agencies led by the Department of Energy and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for their support during the over more than 10 years of pre-development period, with two years of COVID-19 pandemic in between.

“We are grateful for the huge support given to the Tanay wind power project which has finally led us to this groundbreaking. We are hoping that the same support will be extended to us as we move ahead with the construction phase,” he said.

Perez led the ceremonial groundbreaking with Alternergy president Gerry Magbanua and Alternergy Tanay Wind Corp. (ATWC) president Knud Hedeager, with Rizal Governor Nina Ricci Ynares as guest of honor, together with Rep. Emigdio Tanjuatco III (2nd District), Tanay Mayor Rafael Tanjuatco, DOE Renewable Energy Management Bureau assistant director Ruby de Guzman, and DENR Regional executive director for Region 4A Nilo Tamoria.

Ynares thanked Alternergy for choosing the province of Rizal as the home of its new project. This would be the second wind power project of Alternergy in Rizal province. The first is Pililla Wind Project which started commercial operations in 2015.

“What we have started here with our partnership is a testament to our commitment to bring alternative energy as a source of clean energy to the fold of our daily living. This is a great way to show the importance of energy and environmental conservation. This will help boost our already popular and growing tourism in Tanay,” Ynares said.
