MANILA, Philippines — National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) placed the Luzon Grid on yellow alert on Tuesday.

According to NGCP’s advisory, the yellow alert will be up from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and from 6:00 pm to 12:00 midnight on June 4.

It likewise said that the grid had a capacity of 14,461 megawatts (MW) while peak demand was marked at 13,612 MW.

Factors that contributed to the yellow alert included the deration of four plants, the forced outage of four plants, the unavailability of the Angat Main due to low water supply, and an increase in demand.

The NGCP said the Visayas and Mindanao grids were in normal condition.

In the NGCP’s system, a yellow alert is raised when the operating margin is not enough for the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
