BuhaWind Energy, the joint venture of PetroGreen Energy Corp. and Copenhagen Energy of Denmark, will install wind turbine generators with a capacity of 15 megawatts to 20 MW each for the 2,000-MW North Luzon offshore wind power project.

PGEC’s parent firm PetroEnergy Resources Corp., a member of the Yuchencgo Group, said the project would involve the erection of wind turbines in the waters off Burgos, Bangui and Pagudpud towns, with commercial operation eyed in 2028 to 2030.

The project is one of the largest and earliest offshore wind service contracts granted by the Department of Energy in 2021.

Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc led provincial officials in welcoming BuhaWind Energy’s investment to develop and operate the offshore wind project in the province in November. Manotoc expressed desire to prioritize the hiring of skilled and non-skilled residents in the province, protect local fishermen’s livelihood and contribute to more competitive power rates in the province through BuhaWind Energy’s project.

He said the transmission grid connection for the project site and port facilities should also be improved.
