DLSL renews power supply deal with EDC

Businesses may now choose renewable energy and get them directly from licensed retail electricity suppliers like EDC’s BacMan Geothermal, Inc.

De La Salle Lipa (DLSL) has renewed its power supply contract with Energy Development Corp. (EDC) for another two years.

DLSL has been enjoying reliable power at cost competitive rates since it first shifted to renewable energy with EDC in 2017.  Being powered by EDC’s Geo 24/7 from its BacMan Geothermal Inc. facility has enabled DLSL to avoid 3,870 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e).

Dr. Erickson Martinez, Chancellor for De La Salle Lipa, represented the university during a virtual signing ceremony while EDC was represented by Marvin Kenneth S. Bailon, head of EDC’s Business Development-Market Planning and Contracts.

“Our goal of creating a sustainable future for generations to come includes providing our students with a learning environment that preserves our planet and getting power from renewables through First Gen and EDC is a crucial part of it,” said DLSL President and Chancellor, Br. Dante Jose Amisola, FSC.

EDC, First Gen Corp.’s 100 percent renewable energy (RE) subsidiary, has over 1,480MW total installed capacity that accounts for 20 percent of the country’s total installed RE capacity. Its 1,181MW geothermal portfolio accounts for 62 percent of the country’s total installed geothermal capacity and has put the Philippines on the map as the 3rd largest geothermal producer in the world.

“We are pleased to continue helping DLSL fulfill its sustainable development goals amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This partnership helps us fulfill our mission of forging collaborative pathways for a decarbonized and regenerative future, which essentially calls for us to create exponential positive impact on the environment and society,” said Bailon.

DSLS has an average monthly electricity consumption of at least 100 kilowatts. It can now choose to get power from RE sources, via the government’s Green Energy Option Program (GEOP).

Shifting to RE through licensed GEOP providers like First Gen and EDC’s Geo 24/7 allows entities to lower not only their electricity cost but also their carbon footprint, which is a crucial part of the solution to the climate crisis.
