Possible brownouts loom over Luzon on Tuesday due to low power reserves in the grid, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines said Monday afternoon.
In a post on its Twitter account, the NGCP said the Luzon grid has for Tuesday a projected reserve of 193 megawatts, below the yellow alert level.
NGCP defines a “yellow alert” as a system condition wherein the total reserve is less than the capacity of the largest plant online. For the Luzon grid, this is 647 MW.
For Tuesday, the NGCP said the Luzon grid has an available capacity of 7,948 MW and a projected peak demand of 7,755 MW.
The Visayas grid has 227 MW of reserve power, with an available capacity of 1,651 MW and a projected peak demand of 1,424 MW. Mindanao has 93 MW of reserves, with an available capacity of 1,417 MW and a peak demand of 1,324 MW.
Earlier Monday, the NGCP indicated the Luzon grid was on red alert, while the Manila Electric Co. cited the outage of the Calaca 2 and GN Power plants. Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
