The Energy Regulatory Commission said eight generation companies will be meted out with penalties for alleged breach of the maximum allowable unplanned outage days per year.
ERC chairperson Agnes Devanadera said during the House committee on energy hearing that eight were among the 17 companies that were issued show cause orders. The regulator said it would come out with the final decision in the next two weeks.
ERC earlier sent out letters to the 17 gencos covering 35 units for non-compliance on the maximum annual allowable planned outage from Jan. 3 to April 25.
Devanadera said the ERC went through the process of requiring the gencos to explain and submit their explanation. She said most explanations submitted dealt on the pandemic-related issues like inability of technical people to come in and delay in spare parts delivery during the lockdown.
