MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Energy has cleared 24 green energy projects to undertake a system impact study (SIS) with the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP).

The SIS endorsements were issued last month, consisting of 23 renewable power developments and one battery energy storage system (BESS) project.

A grid impact study is conducted to determine the capacity of the power grid to accommodate a new connection and identify necessary improvements such as additional transmission lines, transformers or substations.

Among the biggest projects by capacity are Bondoc Wind Corp.’s 2,000-megawatt onshore and offshore wind project in Quezon and Masbate; Casilagan Solar Power Corp.’s 506.69-MW peak solar project in Cagayan; Solus Wind Energy Corp.’s 400-MW wind project in Sorsogon; AP Renewable Energy Corp.’s 387.23-MWp solar project in Zambales and Haraya Wind Energy Corp.’s 370-MW onshore wind project, also in Zambales.

SIS endorsements were also issued to Pacific Impact Energy Corp.’s 61.5-MWp solar project in Pangasinan and 99-MW wind projects in Albay; First Gen Visayas Energy Inc.’s 100-MW wind project in Nueva Ecija and Apolaki Four Inc.’s 229-MWp solar project in Surigao del Sur.

The list also includes Liberty Solar Energy Corp.’s 80-MWp solar project in Tarlac; Equator Energy Corp.’s 30.2-MWp solar plant in Sorsogon; Aboitiz Solar Power Inc.’s 112-MW wind project in Batangas; Gigasol9 Inc.’s 206.9-MWp solar project in Quezon and Tech Energie Reserves Inc.’s 100-MW wind project in Cebu.

Other cleared facilities are Alabel Solar Energy Corp.’s 130-MWp solar project in Sarangani; Freya Renewables Inc.’s 178-MWp solar project in Cebu; wpd Philippines Onshore Inc.’s 200-MW onshore wind in Iloilo and Antique and Palayan Clean Power Inc.’s 171.64-MWp solar farm in Nueva Ecija.

Likewise, the DOE also cleared Phil Sustainable Renewable Energy Corp.’s 108.4-MWp solar project in Ilocos Sur; TotalPower Inc.’s 100-MW wind project in Ilocos Sur and Abra; East Asia Utilities Corp.’s 30-MW BESS in Cebu and Victoria Green Power Corp.’s 40.6-MW solar plant in Leyte.

From January to October, the agency endorsed a total of 172 power generation projects, comprising 166 renewable energy developments, five BESS and one waste-to-energy project.

The construction of these facilities is aligned with the government’s push to expand the share of renewables in the energy mix to 35 percent by 2030 from the current 22 percent.
