A new substation has been energized in Cavite so it can accommodate the load that will bring electricity service to the Lancaster New City property development as well as its neighboring communities.

Meralco

The facility, which is sited in General Trias town, is a project concretized by the country’s biggest power utility firm in partnership with real estate developer Property Company of Friends Inc. (PRO-FRIENDS).

The property where the substation was erected is a donation of PRO-FRIENDS; and the 115-kilovolt-34.5kV outdoor substation is installed within the Lancaster New City which has been designed to function even if unmanned.

Meralco noted the facility is equipped with supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) as well as devices and remotely controlled distribution feeders and line reclosers.

The utility firm emphasized that aside from addressing critical loading of Cavite power transformers, “the new substation will also provide switching flexibility in case of outages.”

It further noted that such will “translate to fewer and shorter duration power interruptions,” which in turn could be beneficial to residential, commercial and industrial electricity end-users in the area.

Aside from the mixed-use development at the Lancaster New City, the new power substation will likewise cater to the needs of locators within the Cavite Economic Zone. The Lancaster New City, in particular, is currently home to around 65,000 residents and 66 commercial locators, including business process outsourcing (BPO) entities.

The new facility, according to Meralco Deputy Chief Executive Ray C. Espinosa “will improve system reliability and will provide better flexibility during contingencies.”

For PRO-FRIENDS President Guillermo C. Choa, he sees the substation as a new asset that will fully satiate the requirements of their Lancaster New City development and this will also elevate service excellence which is “one of the key pillars that drive our enterprises to go the extra mile.”

Espinosa added the installation is also “a testament to Meralco’s relentless pursuit to continuously improve our service to customers through the use of innovative technology.”
