DOE clears 8 power projects

THE Department of Energy (DOE) has cleared eight power projects, including three from a unit of San Miguel Corp. (SMC), for the conduct of a grid impact study.
A clearance for the conduct of a grid impact study is necessary for a power firm before it can proceed with the construction of its power project.
Based on the DOE’s list as of May this year, Strategic Power Development Corp. (SPDC), a wholly owned subsidiary of the conglomerate, will be involved in the following power projects: 100-megawatt (MW) Nabuangan run-of-hydro river in Apayao, 500-MW Dingalan pumped storage hydroelectric plant in Aurora and 400-MW San Roque Lower East Pumped Storage in Pangasinan. The other five projects include Marubeni Corp.’s 70-MW diesel genset facility in Leyte; Solar Philippines Inc.’s 100-MW Iba-Palauig solar plant in Zambales and anther 100-MW solar plant in Medellin, Cebu; 27-MW Hayes solar plant of Hayes Solar Energy Corp. in Misamis Oreintal; and 1.5-MW Tignoan River (Uper Cascade) hydroelectric plant of REPower Energy Development Corp. in Quezon.
REPower Energy is a subsidiary of Pure Energy Holdings Corp.
The proposed projects could generate a total of 1,298.5 MW of installed power capacity, 1,000 MW of which will come from SPDC.
